Fresh vocal warm up ideas!

Hi Warm Me Uppers!

As we’ve all had a bit of extra time on our (freshly washed) hands lately, we hope that means you’ve been able to do some singing!

If you’ve been using Warm Me Up a lot, we thought now might be a great time to give you some ideas about how to keep your warm ups varied and exciting.

Warm Me Up has a bunch of in-built functions to help keep your warm up fresh. The most obvious if you’re not already using it, is to use the Warm Me Up! generator. Try changing the time of your warm ups - this will allow the app to build you a unique warmup that may be a little different to what you’re used to. Change voices too, to keep things different. You can do both of these in the Settings screen.

Warm Me Up has 60 exercises to choose from. Here’s some variations we often use to change things up in the order you’ll find them in the Browse screens.

Gentle Start

All the warmups in this category are designed to ease you into your warmup. Try alternating sounds in any of these warmups to humming, ng (as in “sing”), vvv, jjj, zzz.

Mi May Mah Mo Moo: this is one of our favourites as it covers all the vowels. Try mixing up the consonants at the start of each vowel: Ni Nay Nah, Vi Vay Vah, etc.

Getting Warmer

Waltzing Vowels is a great one for making up some harmonies over the top.

Mooii - try with the lyrics “Down to the Bottom of the Sea” for something different.

Keep Smiling - anyone else been using this as “Keep Washing” for when hand washing time comes around?

Mini-Me- we love mixing up the consonants in this one. “Dibi”, “Piggy”, “Baba” - get inventive, and have some fun.

Extending The Range

Up Down Change Vowel- try one vowel for all the ascending phrases, and a different one for the descending phrases. Change vowels with every repetition.

Galloping Arpeggios - for a bit of fun, try the lyrics “My horse, My horse, I fell off my horse”.

Gilbert & Sullivan - one of our favourite things to do with this one is to sing the ‘ha ha ha’ staccato sounds with different emotions… funny, sad, angry, confused, secretive.

Mouth Workout

Letters of the Alphabet - anyone else do this by singing the alphabet backwards from Z to A? Just me? Ok move on.

Totally Happily- swap the 'happily' for any mood you’re in. 'Crazily'' seems to work well - 'solit'ry' could be great at the moment too!

Red Leather Yellow Leather - okay, if you really want to fry your brain… try it in these combinations: Red Leather Yellow Leather, Red Letter Yellow Letter, Red Leather Yellow Letter. Then, Blue Lolly Purple Lolly, Blue Lorry Purple Lorry, Blue Lolly Purple Lolly. Now if you can Red Leather Yellow Letter Blue Lorry Purple Lolly. We will not be held responsible for anything that ensues.

Pretty Little Kitty- look we’re more dog people, so we go for “Pretty Little Puppy Dog”, but we’ve tried this out with many different animals. “Pretty Little Tweety Bird” works well too.

Many Men- our new favourite for this one is “Pappa’s got a head like a ping pong ball”. You’re welcome.

Pass the Pepper Penny - just as often we use “Salt the Salmon, Sally” or “Bob’s a bit of a twit”.

Peggy Babcock - we also love using the names of famous singers: Frank Sinatra, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley. Or maybe it would be fun to interchange the names with your neighbours and serenade them? Or would it… ?

Tuned Up

12345 - we love trying any lyric of 5 syllables - they can get really challenging. Here’s a few to try “I like to sing loud”, “This is really hard”, and “I’m washing my hands” is probably going to be helpful to someone.

Fingal’s Cave - we often do this one with a “Nor” sound on each note.Funky Vowels- We love doing this with “Maybe, Sometimes, Oh Yeah,Yass”

We hope that’s given you a few ideas to try out.

And remember that you can save any warm up that you or the app creates.

If you’re friends with other users, you can share these warm ups with each other!  Go to “My Warmups” Click “edit” Select the warm up you want to share Click “Share”.

Have fun everyone, keep washing your hands, and… keep singing!
