Why doesn’t Warm Me Up play when my Android phone is locked?

Hi there Android users! We’ve had some feedback about the frustration you’re feeling when Warm Me Up stops playing when the screen goes to sleep or is locked, or when you navigate to another app. We feel your frustration and are here to help!

Lock screen play back functionality is straight forward on the *clears throat* “other” platform, as all devices are made by the one company. Unfortunately for our Android users, the settings that control what apps are allowed to play whilst the screen is locked comes down to the individual phone manufacturer, of which there are many. Unfortunately it’s not as simple as us building in a global setting into the Warm Me Up Android app.

In our testing, Asus phones have allowed Warm Me Up! to play on the lock screen automatically whereas Samsung users need to adjust settings to make it work.

Here’s some settings to look for on your phone. Samsung have helpfully rounded up these settings on this page.

SPLIT SCREEN

Some phones allow Warm Me Up! to continue in Split Screen functionality, so if you have that option it may be an easy solution.

LOCK SCREEN NOTIFICATION PREFERENCES

Preventing notifications can interrupt audio playing.

Here’s a forum post detailing this for a Pixel phone:

DATA SAVER and BATTERY SETTINGS

Check if there’s any data saving settings on your phone. Adding Warm Me Up to an exceptions list may help avoid your warm up being interrupted if you have data saver on.

Here are some instructions for Pixel phones:

And here for Samsung.

BACKGROUND APP MANAGEMENT

Try toggling the settings on and off. This seems to be helpful on some Pixel phones.

SLEEPING APP SETTINGS:

Some phones have a sleeping app list that Warm Me Up might have found it’s way into. Try removing it if it’s there.

APP KILLER & TASK KILLER APPS:

Do you use an app that prevents other apps working in the background? If so, make sure you add Warm Me Up! to the exceptions list.

We highly recommend googling your Phone Brand + Model Number + Play music on lock screen to see if any specific instructions are already online. Other music apps have similar issues on Android, including Spotify and Amazon Music so there’s already a lot of people with workarounds for their specific devices.

If you’ve found an additional solution, pop it in a comment to this post. It would be very helpful for all our users.

Thanks so much and as always, keep singing!
